Restoration of Sullivan Center's Haskell-Barker-Atwater Buildings Receives Chicago Landmark Award

Chicago Sun-Times
by Celeste Busk

Haskell-Barker-Atwater Buildings, 18-28 S. Wabash: The three buildings are one of the last surviving groups of small-scale loft buildings built just after the Chicago Fire of 1871. The exterior restoration by Joseph Freed and Associates LLC included masonry repairs and cleaning.

Non-historic alterations were removed, including mechanical grills and fire escapes which had been anchored to the facades. All three buildings received new storefronts based on architectural investigation and historic documentation..
